Updating Your Pool To Sell Your House

Why Use A Pool Cover

Having a swimming pool in your yard is a luxury.  Once it is in place you will want to do your best to maintain it so that you don't have to pay for costly repairs.  One way to maintain your pool is to put a pool cover over it when it's not in use.

Why use a pool cover?

Retains heat

By covering the pool when it is not in use it helps the water to stay warm.  At night temperatures seem to drop which means that the water temperature will drop as well.  If the pool is covered this should lower the amount of heat that is lost.  Even a cheap pool cover is better than nothing.

Keeps out debris

Pool owners want their pool to look fantastic.  They spend a lot of time fishing out leaves, twigs and other yard debris.  If a windstorm picks up over night, guess what will be in your pool the next day?  Covering the pool helps to minimize the amount of debris you will find.

Reduces chemical use

Covering a pool can reduce the amount of chemicals that are needed to treat the pool.  An excess amount of chemicals can cause red eyes and dry, itchy skin.

Saves money

Since less chemicals are used and more heat is retained, you are saving money on pool maintenance and heating.  This means you will have more money for things like pool toys or landscaping.

Can be a safety tool

Buying a sturdy fiberglass mesh cover will help protect anyone from falling into the water if it is attached properly.  This may be a good investment for those with small children or animals.  Plastic or tarp covers will not provide this kind of protection.

Conserves water

You will notice that less water evaporates when you use a pool cover.  This means that you will need to refill the water level less often and save money on water.

When to use a pool cover?

For pools that are in use all day it is a good idea to put a cover on once the pool closes and then take it off again in the morning.

How often you should put on the cover depends largely on your climate.  In windy and dry conditions evaporation increases, which means you would want the cover on.  In warm, humid conditions evaporation is less likely to occur and it may be more beneficial to leave the cover off during the day.
