Updating Your Pool To Sell Your House

New In Ground Pool Installed? 2 Tips To Care For It So You Can Enjoy It For A Long Time

If you just had a new in ground pool installed in your yard, you will have a great time swimming and cooling off this summer. It is important, however, that you learn how to properly care for your pool. This will ensure it will give you years of enjoyment. Below are two things you should do to help you get started.

Check pH and Chlorine Levels

It is important that the pH levels in your pool are correct. If not, it could sting eyes and even cause skin problems.  The proper pH level should be between 7.4 and 7.6. There are chemicals that you can purchase to lower or raise the pH level. Sodium carbonate (soda ash) is commonly used to raise the pH in a pool. If the pH level is too low, a common acid that is used is hydrochloric acid, which is also known as muriatic acid.

The chlorine levels should also be checked. You want this to be between 1.0 to 3.0 PPM (parts per million). If the chlorine is too high, a chlorine product is used to get the chlorine to the right level.

You can purchase test strips to test the pH and chlorine levels. You can get these, as well as the chemicals that you need, from the pool company that installed your pool. The pool company can also come to your home and do chemical treatment in your pool to get everything at the right level.

You should test these levels at least twice a week to ensure your pool stays healthy to swim in.

Clean the Pool

One of the most important things you can do is to clean your pool weekly. To do this, first empty the skimmer basket and remove all debris. Remove leaves and other debris from the surface of the water with a cleaning net.  If you see a lot of debris below the surface, there are vacuum cleaners that are designed to be used in a pool.

Pools can sometimes get waterline stains. To clean these stains, purchase a pool surface cleaner at a pool supply store. This cleaner is applied around the entire pool at the water line. Once you do this, use a pool brush to scrub the water line. Also, scrub the entire wall to also keep it clean.
